my favorite Christmas song
Have you ever read the history? I looked it up when I noticed that the original song in Meet Me in St. Louis is different than the versions played on the radio today. Turns out the song had to be reworked to be more happy. From wikipedia:
Some of the original lyrics that were penned by Martin were rejected before the show began. They were: "Have yourself a merry little Christmas / It may be your last/ Next year we may all be living in the past / Have yourself a merry little Christmas / Pop that champagne cork / Next year we may all be living in New York." When presented with the original draft lyric, Garland, her co-star Tom Drake and director Vincente Minnelli criticized the song as depressing, and asked Martin to change the lyrics.
Though he initially resisted, Martin made several changes to make the song more upbeat. For example, the lines "It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past" became "Let your heart be light / Next year all our troubles will be out of sight"....
In 1957, Frank Sinatra asked Martin to revise the line "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow." He told Martin, "The name of my album is A Jolly Christmas. Do you think you could jolly up that line for me?" Martin's new line was "Hang a shining star upon the highest bough." Martin made several other alterations, changing the song's focus to a celebration of present happiness, rather than anticipation of a better future.
The original is still my favorite, and Judy looks so beautiful.

Hello Gorgeous!
It happened! I got a shiny bright new serger for Christmas!!
I am beyond thrilled! Now my sewing studio is all decked out- a sewing machine, a serger, and a dress form. My resolution for 2013 is to make my very first dress! I've made tops and skirts before, but never a dress. I am so excited to get started!
Santa also brought me another very useful present,
a soda maker!! I am so happy about this one because anyone who knows me knows I love sparkling water! I think the advertising pull of this thing is that you can make your own Coke or whatever at home, but I will be delightfully fizzing away making liter after liter of sparkling water. Yum! And maybe even my own soda flavors- rosemary grapefruit anyone?
I love my new gifts!

Happy birthday darling Peach

Would you like to throw a stone at me?
Here, take all that’s left of my peach.
Blood-red, deep;
Heaven knows how it came to pass.
Somebody’s pound of flesh rendered up.
Wrinkled with secrets
And hard with the intention to keep them.
Why, from silvery peach-bloom,
From that shallow-silvery wine-glass on a short stem
This rolling, dropping, heavy globule?
I am thinking, of course, of the peach before I ate it.
Why so velvety, why so voluptuous heavy?
Why hanging with such inordinate weight?
Why so indented?
Why the groove?
Why the lovely, bivalve roundnesses?
Why the ripple down the sphere?
Why the suggestion of incision?
Why was not my peach round and finished like a billiard
ball?
It would have been if man had made it.
Though I’ve eaten it now.
But it wasn’t round and finished like a billiard ball.
And because I say so, you would like to throw something
at me.

Adopt a Goblin
I made goblins for my cousins for Christmas this year.
It is kinda an inside joke, but I think they are cute regardless!
